Montana is better than Manning and Mahomes. Tarkenton was a true HOF player who got the most out of his talent but is not better than Bradshaw or Staubach. Staubach wasnt the passer that Marino was, yet being biased, I felt his career was better, and was more clutch, though his supporting cast was better overrall.

Brady at #1. What a shock. I guess that it doesn't matter if he was a part of a cheating system.

Interesting list. I have a topp as well that I update at the end of every season. The top 30 or so here is pretty similar to Mike although I have some minor quibbles. A few "what the heck are they thinking" are Lamar Jackson is way too high and Sammy Baugh way too low.

Montana is better than Manning and Mahomes. Tarkenton was a true HOF player who got the most out of his talent but is not better than Bradshaw or Staubach. Staubach wasnt the passer that Marino was, yet being biased, I felt his career was better, and was more clutch, though his supporting cast was better overrall.

Also, one thing I noticed: They put Ryan Tannehill and Steve Grogan over Bert Jones.

Jones obviously doesn’t have the raw career stats, but his 1975-1977 stretch was excellent and I think it says something that he got into Hall of Very Good on that, whereas several quarterbacks above him might never be seriously considered for that.

Jones could be 10-15 spots higher.

Brady had the greatest career of any QB. That part is hard to argue with. Him having success away from Belichick helped cement his legacy and I didn't like him but after age 40, I can't help but admire how well he played and at such a high level at 40 and beyond.

Montana to me was so fantastic in the clutch. Four Super Bowls 16 quarters and zero interceptions. The best in my mind for one game.

I'm glad to see Unitas and Graham still ranked high. Recentivism is so rampant nowadays.

I'm also glad to see Marino listed where he is and to me, he's still too high. Playing well in big games to me matters. A quarterback can't win a game on his own, but he certainly can lose them on his own. Making poor decisions, throwing into double coverage, making ill-advised throws, throwing pick sixes. Marino retired as the leader in career pick sixes with 29 if I recall correctly. It's hard to beat good teams when your quarterback is a turnover machine.

You check his big game performances and he often threw two interceptions or more at every level, from high school, college and in the NFL. He threw a pretty pass but did he ever audible to a draw play? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller? Quarterbacks have won quite a few Super Bowls with far less running games than what Marino had. He played for two HOF Super Bowl winning coaches that both won two Super Bowls without Dan Marino. They knew how to win a big game, Marino did not.

He was good enough to beat the '85 Bears in the regular season, but he couldn't beat the '85 Patriots in the post-season, at home, outplayed by the "great" Tony Eason.

Once you get past the top 15, then to me it becomes more difficult to rank. Glad to see Bradshaw above Roethlisberger. Big game QB and great in the post-season vs. regular season QB. Big games matter.

The top 35 all HOFers or will be? Cam Newton would be my first certain no. I'm not sure I'd vote in Rivers.

How about Matt Ryan at 38? Is he a Hall of Famer in your opinion?

As for Marino, out of curiosity was there anything about his game specifically that works well in the regular season but not the playoffs?

Great question on Ryan. I would initially say no, but if the Falcons didn't blow that lead in the Super Bowl, he's probably in (what a difference one big game's outcome can make, a la Ken Anderson). If you say yes to Ryan, you almost have to say yes to Rivers who had more around him offensively than Ryan did.

Obviously, in a big game, such as post-season games, Marino faced better teams with better defenses, better pass rushes. If Marino was pressured up the middle (like Fouts), being as immobile as he was, he would force throws to his team's detriment and to his opponents' benefit. It's hard to beat good teams when your quarterback throws at least two interceptions and then even more pressure builds and Marino folded like a cheap taco.

Some quarterbacks raise their game in the post-season (see chart below. It is a few years old.) Starr, Bradshaw, Eli Manning. Some succumb to the pressure of the moment.

Despite their stats due to longevity, I still feel Ken Anderson was better than Ryan or Rivers.
