Week 12 Carolina Panthers at Lincoln Financial Field 2006
The Eagles came in at 5-6 with the Panthers half a game ahead at 6-5. After a 4-1 start Philadelphia had lost five of their last six games. Another loss would have ended their playoff hopes. With about five minutes left in the game, David Ackers kicked a 25 yard field goal giving us a 27 to 24 lead. I just about gave up hope as the Panthers took the kickoff and drove downfield to the six yard line with 40 seconds left. Lito Shepard intercepted a pass in the End Zone to preserve the victory.
That was the start of a five game winning streak. The Eagles finished at 10-6 and defeated the New York Giants 23 to 20 in the Wild Card Game.
Week 13 New York Giants at Lincoln Financial Field 2019
The Eagles came in at 5-7 three games better than the 2-10 Giants. The first half saw the Eagles stumble and fall behind 17 to 3. In the third quarter, the Birds put on a 60 yard drive with Boston Scott racing across with a two yard plunge. After three quarters, Philadelphia trailed 17 to 10 and it looked like the momentum had swung to us. However, with about eight minutes left, Jake Elliot missed a 47 yard field goal attempt and things looked bad.
Then came the key or keys to the win with about 4 1/2 minutes left. A holding penalty resulted in a third and 18 for the Eagles on their own five yard line. Carson Wentz dropped back to pass and it fell incomplete. Fortunately, a pass interference call gave the Eagles a first down at their own 20. Three plays later Wentz inched for a first down on fourth and one from their own 30. After that, the Eagles glided downfield and Wentz threw a two yard touchdown pass to Zach Ertz.
Since Philadelphia overwhelmed New York in the second half, I felt the Giant defense would collapse in overtime. The Eagles quickly moved downfield and once again Wentz threw a two yard touchdown pass to Zach Ertz. Deja Vu. Philadelphia won 23 to 17. The Eagles made the playoffs with a 9-7 record.
