So why not talk about
this World Champion (all but the
offense, that is)?
How far behind 'Fearsome Foursome' would you place this unit? How do you compare them with the '70s or '80s along with 1999's defense itself? The Aaron Donald defenses?
And, again, special teams can be discussed.

1951 Book on Rams by PFRA covers most of it, but it was not a great defenses, average at best. They has several very good players...Tank Younger was the best at LLB ...Jim WInkler highly underrated at DT
return teams below average and the coverge teams poor.
They played the 5-3 except versus the Packers' spread offense, then they played a 4-3 with West at MLB, in the 5-3 he'd rush the center then drop back to cover ... but Packers' offense was different than everyone RObustelli was wide and off the ball-- almost slot, If Packers went back to a base offesne with 3 RBs the Rams would revert back to usualy 5-3--
In the 4-man line with a middle linebacker, Robustellki would almost be in slot at times.
For a championship team not a highperforming unit(s) though they had some talent

For a championship team not a high-performing unit(s) though they had some talent--which in some ways showed up in 1952 and that was good defense and STs units

Thanks for the informative response. Yeah, I figured they were suspect but I thought that maybe they had some intangibles that could be enlightened to me by some of you; D having ‘something’ to complement that O to an actual Title. You'd think it'd be a modern champ that'd win-it-all with a suspect defense as Coryell's Chargers or those '84 Dolphins couldn't overcome their own deficiencies on that side of the ball. The '50 Rams seemed stronger, but their D was suspect as well. Either way, just goes to show just how Legendary their offense, indeed, was. Still winning-it-all anyway - against the BROWNS, mind you (almost beat them
at Cleveland the year before) - as well as getting out of a tough conference. And then adding that their STs weren't all that either. No balance necessary in this very rare case, I guess.
PS - that loss at San Fran tough to see the box-score of...losing
38-10 at the
half!! Can you go as far to say that their D, for their time/adjusting eras, was even weaker than the SD & Mia defenses mentioned last paragraph?
