Here's an interesting video I just stumbled upon about the history of the Spartans and Portsmouth, Ohio football.

Thank you, Chris.
That's a great little documentary by a local station.
I especially liked the model train going from Green Bay to New York and stopping off in Portsmouth along the way... It is odd how something can go from mainstream to quaint and obsolescent in a single lifespan.

Nice dig-up, Chris! I enjoyed watching it as well. Yes, Jugg, with the train model; but what was with all of Canada up north, apparently, having sunk into the sea, lol??
I'm sure I must have seen them listed in some old NFL standings and simply forgot, but I wasn't aware of the...Red Jackets in Minny! Quite a struggle-some NFL franchise they were, I see.
Though I will root for the Lions over Green Bay generally, I must go with the Pack on each of their title 'debates' with the opposing franchise.
Yes, why not play that 'optional' game against Portsmouth in '32 (why not)? Treat it like a Game 2 in a best-of-three with you already up, 1-0. If you win, then all settled; if you lose, then you got a chance to win the other. But that's the way it went, unfortunately. Looking at GB's 12-2 body-of-work and the Spartans' 11-3 work, the Pack gets the nod with me. Portsmouth, sadly, just should have simply won an extra game to not be in that position in the first place. I guess GB not playing them is similar to being a #1 team playing against a #2 or lesser team for the National Championship and kicking an extra point to tie the game, knowing you'll still be the champ anyway, instead of going for the 2-point-conversion/win thus be seen decisively as the best (of course the opposite of what Tom Osborne did vs Schnellenberger's Hurricanes in '83).
1933...Green Bay simply should have been voted League Champion, that indoor game between two teams who each won half their games mind you being so not right.
1935...8-4-0 Green Bay who beat 7-3-2 Detroit two out of three times that season should have represented instead.
