1993 Saints

At the time they were the 2nd team in NFL history to start 5-0 and miss the playoffs (1978 Washington)

They lost key players (Hebert/Swilling/Heyward) but still had enough familiar faces to start 5-0 and eventually 7-4 before the bottom fell out

Unlike teams with hot starts against weak schedules, they actually beat 4 playoff teams (HOU/DET/SF/MIN)

Safe to say their crash and burn basically ended the Dome Patrol era (Rickey Jackson left in 94, Mills/Morten would depart in 95)

It seemed like business as usual....... until it wasn't

What happened?

kept giving the ball away. protected it well first 5 games, but a game manager like Wilson -- his job is not to make mistakes -- and he didn't do that

that was biggest issue, IMO

I had forgotten that Wilson was their starter ... I remember Everett playing for them but they couldnt win with him either, then Mora got fired. Just couldnt get enough help or the right scheme fits from free agency ...
