The 'grit' of those 'Air Coryell' teams though not their only tough guy.
52 special-teams tackles in a season - a RECORD!!
A nasty short-yardage and blocking RB.
What are your takes on him and his impact?
Thanks in-advance for your opinions!

I can't say I followed the guy's career, or SD in general, but I basically remember him as the "Touchdown Tommy" Vardell of the Chargers. Always good for a 1-yard TD. There was one blowout I watched on TV where he had 3 TDs by halftime--all short runs, of course--and had me thinking, "This guy's halfway to Gale Sayers's record for a game."
Didn't know about his special teams play. But 52 tackles---damn. That's 3 or 4 a game.

Great question! I half-assed tried finding it strictly online but no results.
He's one of those featured in the 'America's Game' episode on the '81 Chargers.
Nice article here...(yes, WHY NOT in the
Chargers Hall of Fame, at least?)...

HIs RB career not much different than that of a latter-day Jerome Bettis; or DJ Dozier '87 amongst many others (not much in yards but numerous short-yardage TDs).
