1988 Tim Krumrie and NT season tackle totals

Post by Bryan »

Tim Krumrie unofficially had 152 tackles in 1988. Can anyone tell me if that is the highest season NT tackle total? Also, were there NTs who would regularly have 100+ tackles each season?

I believe it is.

Back then tackles were more loosely defined on teams, especially the assist. And that's on gamebooks. Coaches stats were even more generous

But 151 is most of any DL I've seen -- Krumrie had another yer of 100+ and a couple in the 1990s. In his 152 year he had 56 assists - a career high. Solos were 95. Most other years his assists were in the mid-20s

Bob Baumhower had a year with 121 and two others years of 100+ as recorded in gamebooks. He has his top seasons of assists in those years ... but a high of 40, range of his carer 20-40. Miami coaches stats credit him with quite a few more tackles and assists than the gamebooks

Doug English - a 4-3 defensive tackle credited in game books with 122 or 123 ... in 1979
It depends what you call Derek Brown, DT or DE had 103 last year.

Most NTs I have done, a high season would be 60-75-ish tackles. Some never got to 60 but Joe Nash
got in to 80s with a high of 92 ...

Krumrie DOES make a lot of tackles, but you have to wonder why the anomaly -- same with Baumhawer.
I washed quote a few games of his and he is active, he does make a lot of tackles but didn't compare
gamebooks with what I observed ... just didn't spend the time.
