lame streaks

When a guy takes one snap to keep a streak going you have to admit it is as lame as flopping. Cal Ripken Jr. never took the field in the top half of the first inning of a home game and then took himself out after the first pitch. Eli Manning played in the games during his long streak.

The NFL doesn't have many Nykesha Sales moments in its history but it sure had one yesterday.

Years ago I did a bunch of research on Lou Gehrig's iron-man streak. This would've been when Cal Ripken was about to break Lou's record. I was amazed at how many similarly lame moments there were in keeping Gehrig's streak alive.

Ones were there was actual action even if set up like the Mike Evans catch in garbage time are one thing. Keeping an iron man streak alive by playing one snap and leaving is a little much.

A blatant money grab is somehow less offensive? If Allen plays long enough to be on the verge of setting some kind of record for consecutive games started, I will agree with you ... but otherwise this is really insignificant.

As a Bucs fan, I promise we would've been outraged if Bowles wouldn't give Mike his record and his money on that last play. That man is going to be our first ever offensive HOFer and we want him to retire here. He turned down a fat stack from the Chiefs to stay, loyalty has to go both ways. Always feels good to stick a dagger in the Aints' heart too, they were definitely not laying down for him, they have no love for Mike Evans. A play for pride sometimes matters as much as a play to decide a game, and no one on either side wasn't playing hard on this one. Every player on that defense wanted to be the guy who broke Mike's streak, although if they stopped him, we probably would've spiked the ball to get him another 1-2 yards. Btw, he's done this kind of thing multiple times before. This isn't even his career low in yards; he's had a 1001-yard season, and also a 1006-yard season. It's his 5th under 1100.

This thread appears to mainly be about someone else, though, who has an ironman streak. Who is it? I have no idea.

Damn, my comment didnt go through. In a nutshell, you cant blame Evans for wanting that reception. He got 3 million dollars and kept the consecutive season streak alive! He started this streak in his rookie season, which Jerry Rice couldnt even do.

Yes, he got lucky and needed the 17th game to do it but he only played 14.5 games this year. With Mayfield, he will break the record next year.

Lions got Jameson Williams the ball in the last few seconds against Vikes to get him to 1,001 yds receiving for the season. So now his streak is....one.

Didn't know Evans got $3 million bonus for getting his 1,000. Damn. That buys a lot kielbasa and Labatts.

Larry Fitzgerald could possibly be a first ballot HOF receiver with 121 TDs scored, not counting postseason. Evans is only 16 TDs shy of that mark in 6 less seasons. If he can stay healthy, he should make the HOF.

I didn't have an issue with the Evans play. He would have eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark weeks ago if not for an injury.
