1959 Cardinals Home Game at Minneapolis

Only Punt Returns for the Chicago Cardinals were good in the 30 to 20 home game loss to the New York Giants. This game was at the future home for the Minnesota Vikings.

For the Giants Charlie Connerly, Frank Gifford, and Don Heinrich completed 17 of 23 passes for 274 yards and three touchdowns. Jerry Norton for Chicago made the only pass interception of the game. Mel Triplett carried five times for 50 yards. Alex Webster caught five passes for 120 yards.

For the Cardinals John David Crow gained 54 yards and ran for a touchdown. The Cardinals lost four fumbles compared to one for the Giants. Total yards gained were 386 for New York and just 96 for the Redbirds. Deducting the Cardinals’ losses in sacks from yards gained passing, their efforts through the air netted to zero.

After Pat Summerall kicked two field goals, Frank Gifford passed 45 yards to Alex Webster for a touchdown. The score at halftime was 13 to 0. The Cardinals showed some action late in the third quarter. Bill Stacy returned a punt 74 yards for a touchdown. Following that John David Crow scored a touchdown giving the Cardinals a brief one point lead at 14 to 13; but the Giants pulled away.

Charlie Connerly threw for two touchdowns, one to Frank Gifford for 33 yards and next to Bob Schnelker for 54 yards. After a field goal from Summerall, the Giants lead 30 to 14. Chicago gained some respect with Bobby Joe Conrad returning a punt return 69 yards for a touchdown. Final New York 30 Chicago Cardinals 20.
