2024 Season Notes Wks 7-10

And the injuries keep piling up ...

Has Watson played his last game for the Browns? Aiyuk got paid, now his season is over. Can Samuel ever get back to his 2021 pre-paid form? If not, the 49ers season could be over with.

Yes, Mahomes isnt playing great but the team is still undefeated. I am sure, top rated passer Burrow would rather exchange records.

I am glad Troy Aikman sees what I am seeing out of receivers. He criticized the Cowboys receivers for running bad routes and not getting off the line better, which I have been seeing out of overrall receivers for years. Different media swears by receivers running the full route tree but its not happening when I watch some of these games. Many times receivers are in the same areas, competing for the ball. If they arent the primary receiver, they still need to go full-out and sell it anyway but too many times, they just go through the motions. That could be why many players are getting hurt, they arent aware of everything happening around them during plays.

Big win for the Lions but the Vikings had their chances. As the game wore on, it seemed like Darnold was watching the pass rush more than his receivers downfield. Easily the worst game the Vikings have played defensively this year, though they scored a TD. The Jets had their chance to go up further on the Steelers but seemed to run out of gas in the 3rd quarter. Wilson got hot in the second half. Hopefully, Reddick can give the Jets more of a pass rush when he finally plays but the team needs to get back to stopping the run first. Will Tua be back for the Dolphins this week?

KC is a smoke and mirrors team

And yet they remain undefeated.

I could care less about KC, but in a way they remind me of the Packers when they won 3 straight titles 1965-67. In none of those seasons did the Pack strike me as being the best team in the NFL. But they knew how to win, they did win, which is simply the bottom line in any sport, no matter how you accomplish it.

I believe it's gonna be a KC-Detroit matchup in the Super Bowl. Hoping the Lions can smash the smoke & mirrors and KC's attempt at a 3-peat, something only GB has ever done.

What team do you think KC will get their first loss to?

KC is the 2020 Steelers, 2023 Eagles. Prepare to see them get blown out by the Jets in the wildcard round.

If the Jets make the wild card round, Rodgers might become OPOTY ... dont think thats happening. The defense isnt even stopping the run right now. They have to hope the offensive line doesnt have any more setbacks, but you would think they could get more than 15 carries for their backs?

The 1967 Packers were an AARP team that basically barely squeezed out a title in a watered down NFL and the playoff rotation made them get to play TWO home games

I don't know. I see the '65-thru-'67 Packers as a VERY legit three-peat (especially '66)!! Please don't call them the Oakland A's which I don't disrespect either.

And even if Chiefs three-peat this year, and yes in this "weaker" era, you got to give it to them. No, I certainly will not place them over '65-thru-'67 GB in a "for their time" sense, but still. Chiefs still unbeaten is Chiefs still being unbeaten. Until they actually become the '20 Steelers or '23 Eagles we shouldn't talk of such. If they finish the three-peat job or at least come close, then we can easily see this Mahomes run as being a garden variety of flavors. Each great team - '18, '19, '20, '22, '23, '24 - being different than each other in their own way. Yes, the 'weaker' era, but any team now three-peating is something to hang hat on! Especially considering that it took 20 years just now for a team to even TWO-peat!

Steelers clearly made an encouraging statement! Gutsy call to start Wilson and look what happened (and against a great Jets-D, mind you)! But I am not at all going into our next game cocky! Steelers have not lost a home MNF game since 1991 (Neil O's "coming out" party; in for Brister, almost rallied them all the way)!

They got a great shot at being 6-2 going into their bye week before their tough second-half schedule. Okay, a little less "tough" in that Cleveland is now turning out not to be so tough. But, just the same, could the MNF home streak now ironically end to...the Giants ('cycle' complete)?? Yes, not getting too excited.

PS - I'm surprised that they simply didn't schedule the NYG@Pit MNF tilt two weeks earlier! It would have been on the exact 33rd Anniversary (Hostetler with the Giants captains at coin-toss, Neil O with Steelers captains)!

Who is looking like the 9-8 AFC team who'll be feasting on the Chiefs come playoff time? Cincinnati?

Besides eating a booger on the sideline, Rodgers still hasnt passed for over 300 yards in awhile, which can be good or bad but the Jets may need to throw the ball more and keep leads until the defense and running game get better ...

Henry for the Ravens could have a truly special season but the team still has to make sure he is fresh and ready for the postseason as he stays healthy. Better to be ready for the divisional round--if they can stay ahead of the Steelers and win the division--than trying to break Dickerson's record.
