Squirmin' Herman & family

Looking through articles about the Midwest Football League of the 1960s and '70s, I discovered that a player I had listed as Charlie Weidemeyer (a quarterback and occasional flanker who played for Lansing from 1969-71) is actually Charlie Wedemeyer, with no I in his last name. And when one article mentioned that he was from Hawaii, I immediately figured that he must be the son of Herman Wedemeyer, who was a big college football star in the 1940s with St. Mary's, I believe. (He also played a couple of years in the AAFC and/or the NFL.)
So I looked up Herman, who has his own Wikipedia page, and it turns out that Charlie was not his son, but his brother, even though he was 20-some years younger -- even farther apart than Sam and Randall Cunningham. Charlie was the youngest of nine kids, and presumably Herman was the oldest. For some reason I was really pleased to find that out.
To end on a sad note, I also learned that Charlie died of Lou Gehrig’s disease back in 2010.
