Steelers 1959 I 1st Game Defeated Browns

At Forbes Field-With the strong finish in 1958, 6-0-1, hopes ran high for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1959. The first game vs the Cleveland Browns seemed to justify that optimism. Down 7 to 0 at halftime, Pittsburgh completely wiped out the Browns in the second half for a 17 to 7 victory.
Bobby Layne started the scoring with a 26 yard field goal. Layne threw at 20 yard touchdown pass to Jimmy Orr for 10 to 7 lead after three quarters. The Steelers acquired End Darly (Pistol Pete) Brewster from the Browns just prior to this game and it paid off immediately. Brewster caught a 26 yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter. For the game, Orr caught six passes for 89 yards and Pistol Pete three passes for 89 yards.
