I am reading Gary Myers's new book on the 1986 Giants and it mentions the feud between Wellington Mara and nephew Tim Mara as they searched for a coach to replace John McVay during the winter of 1978-79. Tim apparently wanted to hire George Allen, but Wellington was adamantly opposed. Does anyone know why Wellington Mara was so dead set against bringing in Allen? Thank you.

Wow...that is petty. He was a proven good coach. Who knows how it would've went with the Giants but the man never had a losing season.

The same Wellington Mara that let Lombardi and Landry walk. Couldnt find a way to get Snell or Namath as well, yet gets elected into the HOF after finally getting it right with GM George Young.
*He does deserve credit for getting Tittle and Shofner though.
