Philadelphia Eagles 1991 Part 3

Post by LeonardRachiele »

The Eagles got their act together and in a six weeks span treated fans to a remarkable defensive show.

Game 9  New York Giants at Veterans Stadium-Eagles 30 Giants 7

Jim McMahon went 16 for 26 for 229 yards and a touchdown.  The defense got four sacks for 17 yards in losses, intercepted a pass, and held the  Giants to 51 yards rushing.

Game 10 at Cleveland Browns-Eagles 32 Browns 30

Philadelphia came behind from 23 to 0 and 30 to 17 scores.  Jim McMahon went 26 for 43 for 341 yards and three touchdowns.  The Eagles held Cleveland to 25 yards yards rushing and the Browns offense did nothing in the second half.  The Eagles also intercepted two passes.

Game 11 Cincinnati Bengals at Veterans Stadium-Eagles 17 Bengals 10

McMahon was 18 for 33 for 195 yards and a touchdown.  Tremendous defensive show for the Eagles-three pass interceptions, six sacks for 53 yards in losses, and a recovered fumble.

Game 12 Arizona Cardinals at Veterans Stadium-Eagles 34 Cardinals 14

Philadelphia got two touchdowns on fumble recoveries.  Seth Joyner ran 34 yards for one touchdown and Clyde Simmons fell on the ball in the Cardinal end zone for another.  The Eagles intercepted four passes and got three sacks for 25 yards.

Game 13 at Houston Oilers-Eagles 13 Oilers 6

Jeff Kemp threw a touchdown pass.  Philadelphia recorded four sacks and six fumbles.   The entire defense was almost perfect but Seth Joyner really  stood out.

Game 14 at New York Giants-Eagles 19 Giants 14

Both Kemp and McMahon played quarterback.  The Eagles came from a 14 to 3 deficit.  In doing that, the Birds  recorded four sacks for 16 yards in losses, recovered three fumbles, and got two pass interceptions. Phil Simms for the Giants was only seven for 23.

This was an amazing six weeks.
