2011 Eagles 26 Dolphins 10; won Final 3 Games

Post by LeonardRachiele »

This was one of the three consecutive year end games that the Eagles won in 2011.  As a result the team finished at 8-8.  They should have won three more but for silly mistakes  This game showed that sacks, turnovers, and penalties are the variables that determine the winners or losers.  The Philadelphia Eagles did extremely well in all of them.  It was just a pleasure to watch them play.    The game  reminded me of the 1991 and 2002 seasons when it functioned like a machine.

There are some points that deserve our attention:

1. The only complaint about the first half was Vick overthrowing a wide open Jeremy  Maclin for a certain touchdown.  The halftime score would have been 31 to 7.  The whole game would have been much easier.

2. -The offense has to start moving the football and scoring.  Points off of turnovers are great but the offense has to do its job to be consistent.

3. Second half scoring woes continue.  The Eagles only got a safety which means no offensive points in the second half.

Safeties are  valuable  since the team scoring gets to return either a punt or tee kick from the 20.  Often this results in a score and can really change momentum.

This victory made their record 6-8 with two games to go. Both the Giants and Cowboys had to go 1-2 and Philadelphia 2-0 for first place with a .500 record.  But let's be honest with ourselves.  No team with a .500 record should see Post Season Action.  I really think it does not speak well for the present system.
