Dubbed the O.J. Simpson Bowl, the Philadelphia Eagles went to Pitt Stadium the seventh week of 1968 to play the Pittsburgh Steelers. Both clubs had lost their previous six games with most not even being close. Fans thought the loser would claim O.J. Simpson in the first round of the draft. Not surprisingly penalties dominated the game. Philadelphia had 12 for 132 yards and the Steelers eight for 118 yards. Sam Baker kicked a 38 yard field goal in the second quarter and this lead held up until the final quarter. Booth Lusteg kicked successfully from the Eagles 38 and 15. After the winning field goal, ball holder Dick Hoak extended both arms upward more in relief than joy. Inspite of this dull game, some players gave good efforts
For Pittsburgh Dick Hoak gained 79 yards rushing and caught three passes for 20 yards.
For The Eagles
--Norm Snead went 17 for 34 for 179 yards,
--Tom Woodeshick carried 18 times for 92 yards and caught three passes for 20. That's 112 yards from scrimmage,
--Ben Hawkins, with his loose helmet strap, caught seven passes for 108 yards
Philadelphia finished 2-12 and the Steelers 1/2 game better at 2-11-2. Neither got a chance at O.J. Simpson. The 1-13 Buffalo Bills had the first pick.
