I was watching some 1986 Redskins games, and Clint Didier had some big catches. Turns out that Didier had an interesting season with 20.3 yards per catch. I started looking for TEs who averaged 20+ yards in a season. Guys like Kellen Winslow and Ozzie Newsome never even came close. John Mackey actually had two seasons early in his career of 20+ YPC. Jackie Smith had a monster 21.5 ypc season in 1967. Billy Cannon came close in 1967 with 19.7 YPC and actually averaged 31.1 YPC in 1966 (only started 7 games). Rich Caster had a 21.4 season in 1972, but not sure if he was really a TE or if he was more of a WR. Are there others?

The Chargers loved huge receiving TEs during the sixties. Jacque MacKinnon nearly averaged 20 yrds per catch in 1968 and nearly 19ypc for his career. Dave Kocourek like Ditka, had a monster 1961 season but was considered a receiver. Listed as a TE for 1964, he averaged about 18ypc ...
Speaking of TEs, do anyone feel that Vernon Davis or Jimmy Graham are HOF worthy? They both accumulated numbers but were very disappointing with various teams as well. If Graham would have layed off teammates wives and stayed with Drew Brees in Nawlins, would have easily made the Hall.

Forgot about Trumpy, who caught way less balls once Curtis and Joiner joined the team.
Morris Stroud in 1972 but only 22 receptions ... Retzlaff was close in 1962 but considered a split end.

side note, that 64 Bills team may be the only team with the TE and 2 wide outs all averaged 20+ yards a catch.

Caster was a TE in 1972, Jerome Barkum (also from Jackson State like Caster) actually was a WR that year along with Maynard and Eddie Bell.
Barkum would convert to TE in 1977.
Caster was a TE in 70, WR in 71, TE 1972-1976, WR 1977-1979. Odd to see but maybe he was just asked by the coaching staff to play one or the other in training camp based on what the Jets personnel was and what was best for the team.
