#42. Started out as a RB but became a great WR. Always put up the touchdown signal whenever he got into the end zone.

He had that big game in the 1972 NFC Championship against the Cowboys with 7 catches for 146 yards and the 45-yard TD bomb that put the game of the reach in the 2nd half. I remember he missed most of the 1971 season (Achilles tendon?) but Washington had acquired Roy Jefferson who filled his role that season. If Taylor hadn't gotten hurt maybe they make the SB a year earlier. Remarkable player who probably led in YACs in many seasons during his prime.

Like other receivers John Mackey, Terrell Owens, Bob Hayes, Charley Taylor could drop some balls but once the ball was in his hands, he ran amok through a defense and was hard to bring down. One of the first great run after the catch receivers who helped Sonny Jurgensen look good. Being a former running back, made moves all through a football field. I still want to collect his #42 jersey for the Redskins along with #42 Paul Warfield 's jersey from the Browns and still waiting for ebbets.com to produce them ... Taylor ran with anger while Warfield glided, probably the two most talented NFL receivers of the 60s with Alworth the best in the AFL.
