Yay for Latone! Such a close one, but highly deserving. Hopefully this occasion sets "la tone" for more early NFL nominees to be considered.
If Tanks is looking for suggestions on who to support now, I'll nominate Jack McBride and Red Dunn, both predecessors to HOF QBs for their teams and not too far off their standard of play (well, no one was close to Friedman's standard, but you get the idea). Does Charlie Mathys merit a look? Anyone have pre-NFL stats for Al Mahrt?

There's no shortage of worthy candidates

Not sure who to to give Latone's old spot to. I already have 3 linemen, so I think a back...
Sonnenberg
McMillen
Christensen
Gutowsky
?
Years ago Red Dunn was among my first batch of nominations. I would vote for McBride for sure and Al Mahrt, but apart From Bob's article, I don't think there are a whole lot of pre-NFL stats compiled. Bob compiled stats for some of Thorpe's biggest games and as a result teams he played against which didn't include Dayton. But, relatives of Mahrt's teammate Norb Sacksteder compiled stats on Saxy and did a really good job which leads me to believe some stats could be compiled for Mahrt, but I don't think there are many play-by-plays. I only recall seeing those for Canton in the Ohio League. I'm leaning towards "Saxy" as they call him getting Latone's spot. Here's a state your case:

I encouraged the relatives to join the PFRA.

Would LOVE to see those. I wonder if they corroborate the figures cited in the article you posted, because those sound inaugural-ballot HOF worthy (especially the 7 TD game).
Long live the Triangles. Bet Al and Norb will be watching TNF together somewhere out there tonight, pulling for the old side.
