My nominees: Bronko Nagurski, Earl Campbell, Walter Payton, Marion Motley, Jim Brown, Cookie Gilchrist, John Henry Johnson, Larry Csonka, Marshawn Lynch, Derrick Henry. By "badass" I guess I mean runners that you REALLY don't/didn't want to tangle with, unless you were a "badass" in your own right (such as a Dick Butkus or a Ray Lewis). Any other "nominees"? (I can think of a few others who are perhaps less well-known than those others: Boobie Clark, Pete Johnson, Jim Nance)

Pound for pound, Bob "Hunchy" Hoernschemeyer was as tough as they came.

Pat Harder. He was a punishing blocker and did a number on Len Ford's face in a 1950 game. Ford missed the next nine weeks of the season while he got his jaw, nose, etc. put back together.

I need more (very much more) education on him! Sure-enough he is the most "badass" pound-for-pound! But how about I offer up...Danny Woodhead??

A "little" guy breaking tackles as he did...

JIM TAYLOR, however, may end up the winner in the end with me! He just may.

A big fan of Danny Woodhead, who could run between the tackles better than LaDanian Tomlinson.

I think Jim Taylor or Walter Payton were the baddest of RBs, though Gilchrist is up there as well ...

To add to the above nominees, John Riggins.

I think I would go with Nagurski and Taylor as the baddest of the bad in this context.
(and, of course, Jim Brown)

Someone I don't really think of as a "badass" but who I definitely wouldn't want to try and tackle head-on is Roger Craig.
No way I would want any of that "high knee action" anywhere near my noggin.
