Your title got cut off but I'm assuming you're asking why he spent his entire career on the Rams with the exception of 1943 when he was with the Bears? In 1943, the Rams completely suspended operations due to the war. Their players went on loan to various other teams, who also had war depleted rosters to varying degrees. Jim Sulecki's excellent book on the Cleveland Rams goes into it in detail.
