2020 Hall of Very Good Election Results

Post by Andy Piascik »

Based on the voting by PFRA members, Ottis Anderson, Jay Hilgenberg, Ed “Too Tall” Jones, Ron McDole, Karl Mecklenburg, Richie Petitbon, Sterling Sharpe and Buddy Young have been elected to the Hall of Very Good. Thanks to all who participated.

I'll say it again, the HOVG is one of the greatest things about the PFRA. Huzzah for another great class! Is there any chance the voting results would be made public? It might be interesting to see which players are "almost there".

Great class, as always, but I’m amazed that Mike Kenn didn’t made it. But I’m happy to see Sharpe, Mecklenburg, Hilgenberg, McDole and “Too Tall”, amongst others.

I was surprised to see Gastineau didn't make it.
Disappointed some of the old timers didn't, especially Peggy Parrett and Tony Latone.

Very happy to see McDole and Petitbon make it in at last.

As always, a "Very Good" class with just enough differing opinions to make it interesting.
Thanks to Andy for overseeing another great annual event!

I really wish that we didn't have to vote for 10 candidates. There have never been 10 on the list that I could vote for in good conscience, only 6 or 7 at most, so I've never voted.

This is the first year I didn't vote. I'll keep participating on the nomination side which is the fun part to me. As I've posted before, the trend in the data shows super senior candidates have virtually no chance of getting in which takes the fun out of voting for me.

I brought this up at the business meeting portion of the Buffalo 2018 conference. Could we vote for LESS than 10? I don't know if it was ever considered by the HOVG committee.

The Committee has had many, many discussions about this and almost every other possible way of structuring the voting over the years. The reason for requiring ten votes is to avoid having people get elected with ridiculously low vote totals. Just take a minute and think what would happen if everyone who voted submitted only one or two or even five names on their ballot.

How does the voting work now? Do we elect the same number of players each year? What's the difference between the last player to get in and the first player not to get in?

What if in addition to voting for 10 the ranking counted? Would that make people feel better who think 10 is too many? We'd just be asking them to rank their top 10 as opposed to submitting a yes vote for 10. A first place vote would be worth 10 points, etc.

It's a great class. Something for everyone. Very surprised also Gastineau was not elected. Same for Tony Latone and Peggy. But it was great to see McDole.

Looking forward to seeing the bios in the CC.

Thank you to everyone who voted, making your voice heard!
