That is weird about Kramer being there over Smith but I do list Kramer as a top 10 PFHOF snub so I am good with it in that sense.

Hm, do they not consider Pete Pihos a tight end? I was wondering what they'd do with that, I guess he's considered a WR. Basically no chance of getting nominated at that position.
Agree about Ron Kramer though, that is just bizarre. Probably the worst nominee I've seen yet.

Pihos and all the pre-1955 or so receivers were "tight"
It's a can of worms, really. TOm Fears and Crazy Legs were usually tight in early 1950s

In The Golden Age of Pro Football: NFL Football in the 1950s, Mickey Herskowitz argued Tom Fears was the first great tight end in terms of the modern conception of tight end. I don't recall the specifics, but I thought it was a good argument.

Here would be my favorites. Gronk was the best, Gonzalez the most durable, Mackey the most spectacular, Winslow the trend-setter.
