This has been coming for about a month -- or for many years depending on how you look at it. Obviously hasn't been what it was for a while now.
I believe the first time I saw it on TV was 1992 and instantly was part of the sports calendar, for me. Really enjoyed it through the 90's especially, and still into the 2000's. Still watched it, all the way to the end, but by the mid-2000's wasn't as big of a fan and less of a fan by the year even when WA finally got a team -and won the ArenaBowl!- just wasn't as unique and interesting as it was in the 90's, to me.
Fond memories of watching games on ESPN/2 back then, the zubaz uniforms, Art Schlichter and the Cincinnati Rockers. Guys like Stevie Thomas and Hunkie Cooper are still among my favorite football players in my lifetime. Saw a lot of good players who went on to other leagues or came from other leagues or who I had watched in college. Also went to games in Portland and Phoenix.
Indoor football will still exist -and the AFL hasn't even been the best indoor football league in recent years- but probably won't ever be like the AFL was in it's heyday. Had a good run.
