Most tyrannical NFL coach

Post by sheajets »

Was speaking with a friend about the toughest hockey coaches. Mike Keenan, Viktor Tikhonov, Eddie Shore etc

who would you say historically is at the absolute top of the list when it comes to the NFL. The meanest, most unyielding, impossible to get along with.

Van Brocklin?
He was supposed to be a real S.O.B.

Ed Khayat had his rules about hair length when he was Eagles coach in the early 70's, which I'm sure made him popular.

Also made me think who could be named the meekest, most uninspiring coach. David Shula, Marty Mornhinweg and Rich Kotite immediately come to mind. If any of them pulled a gun on you you'd probably laugh

Joe Collier and Harvey Johnson from the Bills fit this model ...

Collier wasn't so bad though as a pure tactician. He's sort of an under the radar defensive innovator in the annals of NFL history

Another Collier, Blanton, was a very meek, mild, soft-spoken coach. I guess that was exactly what the Browns needed after the players got tired of Paul Brown's abrasive approach.
