Old Photos
A few old Bears photos from my little collection.
The Famiglietti one is probably my favourite. When it came up for auction many years ago my immediate reaction was "I'm winning that"!!
Apologies for the watermarks which are a necessary evil I'm afraid.

Re: Old Photos
Great photos. Good clarity on the action shots. I imagine that had to be hard to capture before we had readily available high speed film. Someone spent a lot of money on good equipment and film, I think.

The broadside collection:-
1926 Chicago Bears vs Louisville Colonels - https://flic.kr/p/2gxMHQu
1928 Chicago Bears vs New York Giants - https://flic.kr/p/2gxMtTX
1928 Chicago Bears vs Dayton Triangles - https://flic.kr/p/2gxMbjD
1929 Chicago Bears Schedule - https://flic.kr/p/2gxL7Lt
1937 Chicago Bears vs Brandt Florals - https://flic.kr/p/2gxMVBL
1940 Chicago Bears Schedule - https://flic.kr/p/2gxLwWU
1940 Chicago Bears vs Chicago Cardinals - https://flic.kr/p/2gxN3wh
I have been a collector for 20+ years and as far as I know the 1928 pair are the only known examples of their kind.
The latter (Dayton) is believed to be from George Halas' own collection although their is no provenance for that.
I have seen others from 1928 - Minneapolis Marines (07-Oct-1928), Detroit Wolverines (28-Oct-1928) & Frankford (Philadelphia) Yellow Jackets (02-Dec-1928).
The 1929 & 1940 schedules won't fit on the scanner : )

Re: Old Photos
Interesting in the Manders picture you can see a Redskins player sporting an early, rudimentary facemask. This photo could be no later than 1940
#11. Believe it's Erny Pinckert

Also as Hornung is walking off the field...this would be the last moments of the Packers having empty helmets. The next year the G was introduced

Johnny Gordon, my best friend when we were kid, designed the original "G." He also did the cover illustration for my Johnny Blood book.sheajets wrote:Also as Hornung is walking off the field...this would be the last moments of the Packers having empty helmets. The next year the G was introduced
Re: Old Photos
How did that come about? Who reached out to him from the Packers regarding the design? Was it Lombardi? I'd be curious the origins of the iconic G...as well as perhaps any other ideas he may have had for a helmet logo?rhickok1109 wrote:Johnny Gordon, my best friend when we were kid, designed the original "G." Also I've noticed (and maybe this is just coincidental) but the Bears seemed to have a lot of players still hanging on with those 1950's style helmets into the 60's and would have face masks awkwardly rigged on as it became more the norm. But they seemed to have a lot of players sporting helmets where the ear parts jutted out a bit more
