Former Detroit Lions who served in Military?

Post by Rupert Patrick »

I was contacted by somebody in the Detroit Lions PR department asking if I knew of a resource or site listing Lions players who served in the military. Apparently somebody in the Detroit media is doing a Memorial Day piece on former Lions players who served. Any assistance would be appreciated.

This page on the Pro Football HOF site links to lists of NFL players who served in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam.

In the November 2017 issue of the Coffin Corner, John Maxymuk's article - "Inducting the NFL: Military Service Interruptions of the 1950s" - is about ... well, it is in the title.

John compiled a list which includes 21 Lions who missed a combined 35 seasons between 1950 and 1959. The list is in the Coffin Corner article:

Thanks, Tod; I forwarded the list to the Lions and credited it to you.
