Re: PFRA Member Ralph Hickok
I will second his assessment that The League by David Harris is an overlooked book on pro football and I cannot recommend it highly enough. If you have not read it, it is more or less the history of pro football from 1974-85 as seen from the standpoint of the Commissioner and the owners. The book deals with the 1974 strike, the rivalry and feud between Al Davis and Pete Rozelle, the 1982 strike, the Raiders moving to LA and subsequent lawsuits, the USFL and it's impact upon the NFL, the backstories of all the owners and their various power struggles, and much more. I kinda wish Harris had followed this up with a second book, picking up where he left off and covering the rest of the 80's and going into the 90's.
