Anybody want to take a crack at ranking the following Senior-eligible guards in terms of HoF worth regarding film study? With honors listed:
Walt Sweeney (4/9/allAFL)
Dick Barwegen (5/4/50s)
Jim Ray Smith (4/5/none)
Duane Putnam (5/5/none)
Ed Budde (3/7/allAFL)
Ken Gray (4/6/none)
Bob Kuchenberg (2/6/none)
John Niland (3/6/none)
Ed White (2/4/none)
Ken Crippen's site has looked at a handful of games for Barwegen and Smith, and both graded out excellently there.
Knowing what I do at present, I'd likely rank them in HoF fitness order as listed above. Feel free to add any other players who belong on a list like this.
Thanks!

I wasn’t going that far back, but I do think he belongs in the HoF. Ken Crippen’s site looked at a game or two for him and he graded out really well.

Thanks - I'm not much help on your original question, but wanted to see Emerson on the list of worthy senior guards although anyone from the 30s is really a longshot now.

Of those listed the dividing line for HoVG inclusion is between Putnam and Budde (Putnam and above on your list are in).
Ox Emerson is also in the HoVG.
As is Bruno Banducci, who played several of his best years in the AAFC.

I like your list.

Ed White best pass blocker, late in career...Putnam was a pulling guard, best on the move. Kuech likely the best at both... the best combined.

Kuechenberg was highly regarded by Dr. Z, he used to say that guards "are not made like him anymore". White was very good with Tarkenton and Fouts for a long period of time, I think he belongs in our HOVG.
