This article is a bit mystifying to me.

They were great - no doubt - but secondaries are made up of 4, not 3, the random 1978 cutoff, and ignoring things like the 1984 49ers sending every single player in their secondary to the Pro Bowl. The early 60's Lions have 3 Hall of Famers in their secondary.

When its all said and done I think the 'Hawks will join the handful of teams with 2 members of the same secondary in the Hall, and they may - at the rate the game is going - be the last great defense we speak about . . . but god I hope not.

I think the article is trying to argue the LOB is one of the greatest ever. Notice how it's twisting the stats to favor them?

Thomas will be a HOFer one day. Already 3 x 1st Team All-Pros is impressive. I don't think Chancellor gets in, right now, granted he still has years left to improve his argument. I also don't know about Sherman right now. He has some more work to do.

Agreed that Earl Thomas (5/7/10s?) is pretty much a lock to get in now. I think Richard Sherman (4/4/10s?) is probably getting in as well, and any amount he can play at any level will only strengthen his argument.

Didn’t Kam Chancellor already retire? His current profile of 0/4/who knows? and short career isn’t going to get him in the HoF, especially given how much trouble safeties have getting elected. Consider also that contemporaries like Eric Weddle (4/5/10s?) and Eric Berry (3/5/10s?) have better honors arguments, and I think Chancellor is a non-starter.

Yeah, Chancellor had to retire. He will appear on those preliminary lists with 100-something guys on it and that'll be about it. He has too few individual honors to make the Hall of Fame.

I think people underestimate how good Sherman was over that run, 5x Top 10 in Passer rating allowed between 2011 and 2016, the non Top 10 season he was 11th, Champ Bailey was top 10 just 3x, Charles Woodson 4x, and he was certainly a will tackler, moreso than a typical Corner.

Tend to agree, another Pro Bowl or two would help. I think he's a marginal "in" right now...but maybe a marginal "out". Certainly no first-balloter.

Statistically he's done some special things. He picks off passes like he's playing in an earlier era. And this is not even adjusted by era, roughly INT % in his era is about 2.5% when back in Night Train's day it was maybe 5-5.5% So, adjuted for era, Sherman picks off balls at a high rate

I think Thomas and Sherman both get in.

I'll leave the analysis for another day but I think the Legion of Boom is right up there with the greatest defenses of all time. Top ten for sure.
