Speaking of some punters, one thing Roby didn't do is play halfback :)... I always had Dilweg ahead of Lewellen, but here is someone who has Lewellen first. Interesting all-time Packers backfield:

Q: Dunn
H: Lewellen, Isbell
F: Hinkle

I think they both belong in. My preference is for Dilweg ahead of Lewellen, but that doesn't mean the latter shouldn't be in as well.

Both should be in but I prefer Lewellen. Scorer and great punter. How does a 30s player with over 50 career TDs not get elected ?

How was there a centennial class with both as finalists and neither got in? Would have rathered they pick 10 out of a hat, very unlikely to have been worse than what they came up with.

Also, I'd put Blood at RH over Isbell. Canadeo was also mentioned, but I see him more as HOVG than HOF.

Yeah, neither of the Bears who got in made much sense to me. I don't know what was going on behind the scenes. I mostly liked the 20 candidates. The easy ones to me were:

Dilweg, Lewellen, Emerson, Wistert, and probably Slater.

The easy ones to eliminate to me were: Covert, Sprinkle, and probably Nobis.

I wouldn't have quibbled with the 5 I said and any 5 below:

Cliff Branch, WR - 1972-1985 Oakland/Los Angeles Raiders
Harold Carmichael, WR - 1971-1983 Philadelphia Eagles, 1984 Dallas Cowboys
Roger Craig, RB - 1983-1990 San Francisco 49ers, 1991 Los Angeles Raiders, 1992-93 Minnesota Vikings
Bobby Dillon, S - 1952-59 Green Bay Packers
Randy Gradishar, LB - 1974-1983 Denver Broncos
Cliff Harris, S - 1970-79 Dallas Cowboys
Winston Hill, T - 1963-1976 New York Jets, 1977 Los Angeles Rams
Cecil Isbell, TB/DB/HB - 1938-1942 Green Bay Packers
Alex Karras, DT - 1958-1962, 1964-1970 Detroit Lions
Drew Pearson, WR - 1973-1983 Dallas Cowboys
Donnie Shell, S - 1974-1987 Pittsburgh Steelers
Mac Speedie, E - 1946-1952 Cleveland Browns [AAFC/NFL]

I generally trust the P.F.H.o.F. voters to "get it right" but there's one recent entry (a coach) that I question. In "The Super '70s" book by Tom Danyluk, Archie Manning wonders why Tommy Nobis isn't in the H.o.F. I know someone (who researches football more than I do) who is of the opinion (he e-mailed me this, once) that Randy Gradishar "is better than half the LBs in the Hall."

I guess the argument for Sprinkle is that it's hard to measure his impact. The stuff he was very good at as a DE---forcing fumbles and QB sacks---weren't official stats when he played. And the stuff he was very good at as an OE---splitting wide and blocking down on defenders---is the kind of stuff for which there is no category. Personally, I think the HOF in all sports are filled with too many marginal members. It's not like Ed Sprinkle is suddenly a better player in 2020 than he was in 1948.

What do you base the marginal members on
