For those who saw both play, who do you consider the better player on the Cowboys defensive line, end Andrie or tackle Pugh?

Andrie was good, tall, but lacked some quickness...a little like Lamar Lundy.

While I am certainly not the expert Mr. Turney is I concur with his opinion.
That is not to denigrate Andrie. He was a fine player on an excellent defense.

I remember those Cowboys teams from my youth and Pugh often was (imho) the best defensive lineman on his team...
sometimes even better than Bob Lily (in his declining years).

In my opinion, Pugh is a valid candidate for our Hall of (the) Very Good (and I have so nominated him a few times).

Is it safe to say that Jethro Pugh has fewer honors than Andrie because, during his prime, he was playing at the same time as perennial favorites Alan Page, Merlin Olsen and Bob Lilly (in the NFC) and Joe Greene (in the AFC)?

The Cowboys, during the Landry/Gil Brandt era loved tall D-Lineman. Andrie was 6'6", Pugh was 6'6", Bob Lilly was 6' 5", Willie Townes 6'4" Larry Cole was 6'5", Bill Gregory 6' 5", Pat Tomay 6'5", Harvey Martin was 6'5", Larry Bethea was 6'5", Jim Jeffcoat was 6' 6" and of course Ed Jones with his 6'9" height. Only guy I can recall being outside that range that played consistently for them was Bruce Thornton a "midget" at 6'1". When Jones decided to pursue a career in boxing, they traded for the 6'6" John Dutton. Randy White, originally drafted to play LB was 6'4". Brandt I imagine was married to his profile of what they wanted in a D-Lineman.
