Cliff Battles seems like an obvious omission. I like Gutowsky and Leemans, but it seems to me that Battles outranks either of them.
Also, no ends here, aside from Hutson, who was hardly typical of the position in the 1930s, so maybe Bill Hewitt would make a good addition.

aha. I had Battles on my longer list and inadvertently deleted him. He gets in over Leemans. Good point on the ends. I may have to figure out a way to get Hewitt in.

If I may quote a certain someone who once said, "I believe if someone deserves to be in the Hall of Fame, they should be in." Increase the limit on size for each class if necessary.ChrisBabcock wrote:aha. I had Battles on my longer list and inadvertently deleted him. He gets in over Leemans. Good point on the ends. I agree. 15 per decade really isn't enough. The HOF currently inducts as many as 7 a year, which is 70 per decade. Granted, 70 would be too many for the early decades, when rosters were smaller and guys played both ways, but 15 is too few.JeffreyMiller wrote:If I may quote a certain someone who once said, "I believe if someone deserves to be in the Hall of Fame, they should be in." Re: 1930s Pro Football Hall Of Fame
Thanks Chris - I like this type of exercise. I’m still picking players only and no contributors. I also included my 20s list to show which decade I placed the players because there will always be some players where an argument could be made for multiple decades. Baugh is an example. I'm guessing you would have him in the 40s, but I went with the 30s.
20s
E: Chamberlin, Dilweg
T: Healey, Slater, Henry, Lyman
G: A. Nesser, Youngstrom
C: Trafton
B: Driscoll, Friedman, Latone, Nevers, Lambeau, Pollard
30s
E: Hutson, Hewitt
T: Hubbard, Edwards, Stydahar
G: Michalske, Fortman
C: Hein
B: Baugh, D. Clark, Nagurski, Blood, Hinkle, Herber, Battles
HOVG (These are a few pretty good players from the 30s that would drop into the HOVG. I didn't do the 20s, but I think we'd definitely want to get those who didn't make the top 15 cut from that decade in the HOVG as well.):
B: Strong, Grange, Presnell, Gutowsky
G: Emerson
T: Christensen
Finally, I bolded Latone, Gutowsky, and Christensen as to me they are at least in the discussion for top 15 for an entire decade, but still not in our real life HOVG.
