Today's uesless trivia list

Post by Rupert Patrick »

I was playing around home and road won-lost data for stadiums, and was curious about which stadiums who have hosted the most regular season NFL games. I know the list is not 100 percent correct, as teams (particularly in the 30's thru 50's) occasionally played a game in a different city, as Buffalo hosted a number of regular season games in 30's and 40's. I don't make it a point to keep up with the current name of every active stadium; in most cases it is the first corporate sponsor name for the stadium and not the current one. An asterisk denotes an active stadium.

p-f-r has a list too. Not sure how accurate it is. It can be sortable by games played.

Great list! The big question is how many of them have you been in?

There are 166 on the list and I believe I've been in 26 - although only 6 for NFL/AFL games - with one more
(Franklin Field) scheduled for this fall.
The others were for baseball, basketball, college football or Olympics (soccer, athletics, baseball, basketball)
and four of them were just walk thru - no events going on when I was there.

Sadly, just 3. Ralph Wilson Stadium, War Memorial Stadium & the Edward Jones Dome. I've been in the parking lot at Candlestick.

Among stadiums that have hosted pro football games (either been in or visited):

Three Rivers (for Pirates games and concerts, not football), been to Heinz Field and walked around the outer perimeter of the stadium but it was closed. I also visited Indianapolis in 2005 and walked around the perimeter of the Hoosier Dome but it was closed.

I've been to the original Cleveland Municipal Stadium and walked around it, that was a couple months after the Browns played their final game there. My brother and I walked around the exterior, looking for loose brick souvenirs because I knew they were going to tear it down. With the help of my brother's tools, I found a couple loose hunks of brick that found their way into my backpack. I've been to the new Cleveland Stadium when we were there for the 2014 PFRA convention.

Been to a couple Lions games at the Pontiac Silverdome, four Steelers-Bengals games at Paul Brown Stadium, Tiger Stadium (saw a number of baseball games there, but the Lions had long since moved to the Silverdome), LA Coliseum (saw a LA Raiders-Seahawks game in 1983), Anaheim Stadium (saw an Angels game), Clemson Death Valley (never saw a Clemson football game but the Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd have had concerts there over the years and I saw them, and I wasn't living in SC the year the Panthers were playing there), Fulton County Stadium (for a number of Braves games, never for a Falcons game).

Saw a Yankees game at Yankee Stadium back in 2006. Went to Green Bay for the 2016 PFRA convention and went all over the stadium including going on top of the stadium, which I was told was the highest point in the city of Green Bay. (I was standing on top of the stadium and asked which direction downtown Green Bay was because I could not see any buildings, and asked the tour guide where downtown was.) Visited my folks when they moved to Boston in the early 90's, and me and my father took a walking tour of Boston, which included a walk around the perimeter of Fenway Park, which was closed. Saw a Bills-Raiders game at Rich Stadium in December 1993 with my brother, we would have froze to death had he not snuck a bottle of peach schnapps under his jacket. Saw Dan Marino play a game at Pitt Stadium in 1980.

I'm surprised to see I've been in six of those stadiums (and all of them are local):
Kezar, Candlestick, Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, Oakland Alameda Colosseum , California Memorial Stadium and Stanford Stadium (all but Cal and Stanford for NFL Games and the Colosseum for USFL games, too... and I got to play on the field at Kezar once long ago...)

And I've been in Fawcett Stadium but not for a game... which I didn't see on the list (List is for regular season games only, I assume?).
Surprised to see the Alamo Dome in there... I forgot they played games there... I was there when it was being built... does that count?

I have watched NFL games at:

- Houston Astrodome: 1 preseason
- Cowboys/AT&T Stadium. (Arlington): 9 regular season
- Azteca Stadium (Mexico City): 4 preseason, 2 regular season

Plus, I have been in these current stadiums:
- Cleveland
- Lambeau Field, Green Bay
- Seattle
- Soldier Field, Chicago

And to these stadiums who hosted an NFL team:
- Fenway Park, Boston
- Jack Murphy/Qualcomm Stadium, San Diego
- Orange Bowl, Miami

As for Canada, I gave gone to CFL games to Vancouver, Calgary and Ottawa, plus I have been to Montreal's Olympic Stadium, who hosted a preseason game. Another stadiums I have been who hosted preseason games are Barcelona's Olympic Stadium and Canton's Fawcett Stadium.
