Interesting thread and thank you for sharing the link.

Sounds like a typical case of baseball/football team politics. I believe the Jets experienced the same situation with the Mets over Shea Stadium, where they had to play at least their first few games on the road each year.

I am unable to find my copy of George Halas' autobiography (which is pissing me off) so I am unable to provide verification but I think the relationship between Halas and Wrigley was responsible for the teams sharing Wrigley Field.

I remember Halas named The Bears after the Cubs (because football players were bigger than baseball players he went from Cubs to Bears) and that for the entirety of their stay at Wrigley the two owners never had a written contract, just a hand-shake deal.

That sounds like a personal relationship to me.
