Namath in the shotgun

Was watching a TWIPF clip on YouTube when I noticed Namath in an extreme shotgun formation in 1976. In fact, it's almost a punting formation. I know he had bad knees, but this seems over the top.

It's 10 yards, one yard longer than the classic 9 yards (but does not account for the couple of steps back), which is the depth of a 7-step drop. But it does look like a mile. He threw it from 12 yards or so which is about 3 yards deeper than normal

I just watched that same clip a few days ago. I had no idea that the Jets had Joe in the shotgun.
It's always been amazing to me that Namath averaged under 10 yards per completion during the dismal 1976 season. Joe freakin" Namath!
