Starting WR duo switching teams together in one offseason

Post by ChrisBabcock »

Barring injury, this will happen this season with Sammy Watkins and Robert Woods. (Bills to Rams) I can't think of any instance off the top of my head that this has happened before. Has it ever? Adam (conace), this one might be up your alley.

I can't think of anything exactly like this. The only other case I can think of where 2 WR's start for 2 different franchises is the duo if Curtis Conway and Jeff Graham. They started in Chicago in 1994 and 1995. Graham went to the Jets as a free agent and Conway stayed in Chicago. They were reunited in San Diego in 2000.

Mark Ingram and TE Keith Jackson both moved from Miami to Green Bay in 1995, although Jackson didn't report for half the season.

Two RECEIVERS who Weeb Ewbank picked up for the Jets from Baltimore in 1963 were WR Bake Turner and TE Dee Mackey. PFR has an error with Turner's 1962 numbers--he caught one pass for 111 yards. He actually caught two: one vs. the Bears on 10/21 for 37 yards and one in the season finale vs. the Vikes--a 74-yard TD from Lamar McHan in mop-up duty.

Probably the best way to search for this is to look at HC's that immediately moved from one team to the next, since plenty of veteran coaches like to bring "their guys" to their new team.

While it's a weak example of the above theory, the 1981 Saints had Guido Merkens and Jeff Groth, who had been with Oail Phillips the year before in Houston.
