Single-tie w/l/t records that never were or yet to be

Post by 74_75_78_79_ »

15-0-1, 14-1-1, 13-2-1, 12-3-1...no team ever finished with those off the top of my head. 11-4-1? You got '81 Dolphins and '12 Forty Niners. 10-5-1 you got '81 Jets, '02 Steelers, and last year's Seahawks. '89 Browns, '02 Falcons, and '08 Eagles each 9-6-1 and so on. But back to single-tie finishes we've never seen (winning or losing seasons, 14 and 12-game seasons as well)...what can you name?

In the CFL the 1981 Edmonton Eskimos finished 14-1-1.

Without looking anything up, it seems like 9-6-1 and 6-9-1 are the most often occurring NFL single tie records. (in the 16 game era) ...even more than 8-7-1 and 7-8-1.

Not quite on topic but the Jets who have had a lot of bad teams strangely had their first 5-11 season last year.

They were also 8-7-1 in 1988 which is a record you rarely see. Late in the season they were playing in Buffalo on a cold, wet, awful day. Neither offense was capable of anything. I don't think both QB's even were able to get out of single digit completions.

Jets receive the opening kickoff and fumble immediately. Bills kick a short FG to win it 9-6. If they didn't fumble then a good chance that game ends in a 6-6 ties and the Jets finish 1988 at 8-6-2.

In 1978, the Vikings and Packers finished tied for the division lead at 8-7-1. Minnesota won the tiebreaker and got crushed 34-10 by the Rams in Fran Tarkenton's last game. Actually, they only got crushed in the second half as I believe it was 10-10 at halftime.
