Hey Guys,
What team did George Halas and his Bears play against on the day that Halas returned a fumble 98 yards for a touchdown? I think that it might have been Jim Thorpe's fumble, but I'm not sure. Thanks for any info that you can send me.
Sincerely,
Joe Zagorski
Halas' 98-yard fumble return
Re: Halas' 98-yard fumble return
Hey Joe, the Bears played the Oorang Indians on November 4 1923 when Halas had his fumble return TD.
The Chicago Tribune reported that Halas picked up the ball on the 3 yard line, so it may have been 97 yards.

The PFHOF site says that it was Jim Thorpe's fumble:
1923
For the first time, all of the franchises considered to be part of the NFL fielded teams. Thorpe played his second and final season for the Oorang Indians. Against the Bears, Thorpe fumbled, and Halas picked up the ball and returned it 98 yards for a touchdown, a record that would last until 1972.
