A forgotten classic championship battle between the Packers and Cowboys that ended in a 34-27 Packers win. It had the Packers scoring the first two touchdowns (like the Ice Bowl) and had a last-minute drive that ended dramatically (also like the Ice Bowl). Of course, had Dallas scored on that last drive, it would have only meant OT, not the game. Most importantly, it didn't have the absolutely brutal cold--40 degrees, I believe. One was the first NFL game of 1967 and the other was the last that year.

In the AFL that same day, the Chiefs ended the Bills' chance for a three-peat by blasting them 31-7. The game was tied at 7 going into the second quarter, but it was all Chiefs afterward.

The 1966 NFL Championship game and the Vikings-Rams 1969 Western Conference Championship are two forgotten classics.

There was a book that came out last year called "The 1966 Green Bay Packers" where I wrote a very detailed account of the 1966 NFL Championship game. I'm sure you all already bought the book and read it cover to cover, but just to refresh your memories, I mentioned in it that piece that because everybody remembers the Ice Bowl I thought the 1966 NFL Championship game was arguably the most underrated postseason game in pro football history. An interesting piece of trivia I pointed out is that there were actually two NFL championship games between Dallas and Green Bay played during the 1967 calendar year, one on New Year's Day (1966 NFL Championship) and the other on New Year's Eve (1967 NFL Championship), both of which served as bookends for the year.

I saw this game on TV and it is one of the best I ever saw. At the time, the Cowboys were considered a kind of "Cinderella Team."

The point of this thread is that the game gets no publicity so most people that didn't see it don't know about it.

The Cowboys lost in Philadelphia on the 50th anniversary of the Cowboys first-ever post-season game (ignoring their appearance in the defunct Playoff Bowl after the 1965 season).

The Cowboys had a bye last week, so this Sunday will be the first chance Jerry gets to honor that team in front of the home crowd, and how appropriate that it comes when the Cowboys are scheduled to play the Packers! But will Jerry actually do it? Considering he did nothing in 2011 to honor the 40th anniversary of the Cowboys first Super Bowl Championship team (1971), I doubt it. And it's not like he ignores Cowboys history prior to his 1989 purchase of the team. 2012 was the 20th anniversary of the first Super Bowl Championship team under his watch (1992) and he did nothing.

When it comes to Cowboys history, Jerry talks a good game, but in fact, he ignores it unless he can somehow make a buck off of it.

It turned out to be a great game. After the Pack took a 14 to 0 lead early on, I thought that the game was going to be a slaughter by Green Bay. Vince didn't like it very much when the Cowboys made a game of it saying, "You got yourselves a football game."

Vince, like me, thought it was going to be an easy win for the Pack.
