MacArthur Lane's 1972 fumble/muff vs. Oakland

Post by JoeZagorski »

Hey Guys,
I realize that Art McNally declared that MacArthur Lane's fumble against Oakland in the second week of the 1972 regular season should have been declared a muff, not a fumble. Let's say that for argument's sake it was declared a muff. What would have been the verdict? Would it be Oakland's ball at the 20 because Jack Tatum recovered it in the end zone? Or would it have been declared that Green Bay would keep possession of the ball? I need you rules guys to help me understand this one. Thanks!
Sincerely,

A touchback because a muff meant that Tatum couldn't advance the ball.
