Six Pro Bowls, 5 of them 1st team All Pro. Whether it's now the end for him or not, has he at least 'clinched' Canton? And if so, how soon?

I say yes. 4/6/10s? is top-notch for a guard of the time. He'll wait a bit like every recent guard not named Larry Allen, but he'll get in.74_75_78_79_ wrote:Six Pro Bowls, 5 of them 1st team All Pro. Whether it's now the end for him or not, has he at least 'clinched' Canton? And if so, how soon?
It's funny Rupert as I read your words I thought you'd be no, then you landed on the bubble. Would love to know how coaches graded him.Rupert Patrick wrote:I think some players from this Seahawks team will make the HOF, but I was thinking more on the defensive side, as this is one of the great defenses in pro football history and such teams do get so honored. Can you write the history of pro football without mentioning Evans? Probably. Did he change the way the game was played? Not that I can tell. Did defenses set up special formations particularly designed to deal with him? I don't think so. Is it possible he was honored to an extent because of the success of his team over the past few years? Could be. Is there the name recognition, which is a big thing? I know they didn't play the same position but how did he compare to Walter Jones in the honors department? While it is true that Jones did not play in the Russell Wilson era, much of his career the Seahawks were a solid team and they did make a Super Bowl. Was Evans ever considered the best Guard in the NFL? Did he have any signature plays in his career? There are a number of questions you can ask from which you can generally weed out the HOFers from the non-HOFers. Evans seems to be on the bubble in my opinion.
Evans actually spent all his career with the Saints. They released him earlier in 2016. The Seahawks signed him in the offseason but just released him.Rupert Patrick wrote:I think some players from this Seahawks team will make the HOF, but I was thinking more on the defensive side, as this is one of the great defenses in pro football history and such teams do get so honored. Evans didn't play his career in Seattle. He just spent this preseason (less than a month) with the Seahawks.Rupert Patrick wrote:I think some players from this Seahawks team will make the HOF, but I was thinking more on the defensive side, as this is one of the great defenses in pro football history and such teams do get so honored.
