Documentary on Joe Roth

Post by Evan »

Anybody see this documentary on Joe Roth? http://www.joerothfilm.com/

Can't tell too much from the trailer in terms of the depth of the documentary but it seems like a number of good interviews though, based on this list:
Ted Albrecht, Steve Bartkowski, Jack Clark, Tony Dungy, Paul Hackett, Keith Jackson, Chuck Muncie, Al Saunders, Barry Switzer, Dick Vermeil, Wesley Walker, Mike White

I'm fascinated by the story of Joe Roth, but I know this will be a tough watch, probably similar to the emotional toll of watching the 30 for 30 short on Joe Delaney.

Knew it was being made, didn't know it was out. Will be ordering the DVD shortly. Thanks for the unintentional reminder, Evan!

Arrived this weekend, watched it tonight. It's excellent. Narrated by Keith Jackson, interviews with numerous teammates and a lot of opponents (players and coaches). Plus interviews with his family.

Best part for me is all the footage that's included. JUCO clips, handful of plays against San Jose State, Washington (includes a story about UW recruiting him), Washington State, Oregon State, Arizona State, USC, etc. His sideline interview in the Hula Bowl and a clip of him playing in the Japan Bowl, also.

Story is known of course, but a lot of additional details. I recommend it - well i recommend anything football related but that aside, would still recommend as a good documentary about Joe Roth.

I'm going to order this dvd as well, this was both a special player and individual. When you see the old video, the talent was there, some of the throws look very similar to Aaron Rodgers when the latter played at Cal. It's speculation of course, but the NFL may have missed out on a great QB in the 1980s when Roth passed away.
