Tagliabue and Jerry Jones the 2 contributer nominees
Missed that one by a mile. I was hearing Young, Beathard, guys like that. Tags I had heard some on, but an active owner who's not that old... curious

This category is the worst idea they've ever had for the Hall of Fame. They've only had it for, what, less than five years, right? And already they're scraping the bottom of the barrel. Just imagine who'll be on the ballot ten years from now ... Dan Snyder? Dick Stockton? Paul Brown's son, what's-his-name from the Bengals? It's a joke.

I agree completely. I've had this thought... maybe, just maybe, after a number of years in a row of subpar contributor nominees not passing through to actual induction, they come to their senses and fold the category back in with the regular nominees. This category is the worst idea they've ever had for the Hall of Fame. At this pace I believe that in three or four years the Contributor nominee will be Stan Kroenke, the Rams owner who brought back the team to L.A. (even if the team won't win in the proccess).

Re: Tagliabue and Jerry Jones the 2 contributer nominees
My thinking of both nominees:
- Someone said in the old forum that Tagliabue entering the Hall would be as if every American President should get a Nobel Prize only for having the seat. I believe the same. Although in his tenure there weren't strikes and the NFL got to play many exhibition games abroad and NFL Europe was formed, the NFL was stable before it and I think everyone in his place would have done the same job.
- As for Jerruh, as a Cowboy fan, I don't think he belongs either, look how many teams in the past 20 seasons haven't got at least to their respective Conferences Championship games: Buffalo, Miami, Cincinnati, Cleveland (absent in the league from 1996-1998), Houston (from 2002), Washington, Detroit... and Dallas. At least, if he gets in I can presume that he signed a game program to my wife when we went in Thankgsiving 2011 to Cowboy Stadium.

Jones' only calling card is his ability to prime an already well-oiled pump and make money for the league. It certainly isn't for his football knowledge, since the Boys have been pretty mediocre since Jimmy Johnson left.

Let there be contributors as nominees but why this every single year induction quota? Much more often than kickers/punters, fine, but one-per-year no matter what?

Well, technically its a nomination quota but still. One of 2 things will happen: Either the pool will really dry up and they'll run out of worthy nominees, or a majority of the contributor nominees will fail to get inducted. Either way, after awhile hopefully it will force the powers that be to revisit whether or not there actually needs to be the contributor subcategory.Let there be contributors as nominees but why this every single year induction quota? Couldn't agree more. The category is bad to begin with and now these nominees? Laughable.Bob Gill wrote:This category is the worst idea they've ever had for the Hall of Fame.
