The 1980 HOF game was called in the third quarter in the midst of a lightning storm with the Packers and Chargers scoreless.

That now makes three HOF games the Packers have been involved in which were either canceled or curtailed due to weather. Their 2003 matchup against the Chiefs was also called early due to bad weather.

It was fierce weather at the 1980 Hall of Fame Game. With 60-mph wind gusts, light hail, frequent lightning, and a sky that almost instantly went black. The storm sort of came out of nowhere. It was fair, although humid weather up until the fourth quarter.
This is the only NFL game I've ever been able to find that was affected by hail. Keep in mind hail (warm weather) and sleet (cold weather) are two different weather phenomena.

A few years ago, Michael Benter wrote an article called "Roughing It on the Road: Bad Weather Games Away from Lambeau", about five regular season games where the Packers were playing in bad weather... and it wasn't in Green Bay, home of the frozen tundra. All of the games were in other locales, and it seemed as though hosting the Green Bay Packers was a jinx of some sort. For some reason, that has proven to be true in the preseason as well, with yesterday being the latest chapter. Maybe Curly Lambeau put a curse on the team when he was told to hit the road in 1949.

2011 Bears-Rams HOF game ...
Slight change of subject. Why did they (or were going to) break from the AFC/NFC tradition for this game? I remember wondering about it 5 years ago and I can't remember if I ever found out why.
I know there was a Bills-Titans matchup for the 50th anniversary of the AFL but there definitely wasn't any significant anniversary for Bears-Rams in 2011.

During the first 14 games after the first merged season (1971 to 1984), the game was arranged so that each of the 14 NFC teams and 14 AFC teams would appear at Canton. After that purpose was served, there really was no reason to keep it as an NFC-AFC matchup, though it continued that way for another 24 years. Once the tradition was broken in 2010, there was no "need" for an interconference matchup.

In 1995 the game was between the expansión Panthers and Jaguars.
