Better DC, Dick Jauron or Jim Schwartz?
Both have struggled in their tenures as HC though still experiencing the post-season on that very level just the same. As for defensive coordinator, both have done some rather fine work - Jauron with Coughlin's Jags and Schwartz with Fisher's Titans as well as '14 Bills. Who would you rather have coaching your D and why?

Man, what an old thread!
Sure-enough, at the time, this was dead-even (as evidenced in the no-responses). I couldn't even decide at the time. But with all-due-respect to what Jauron gave to the game in his career as a player and coach, it really looks as if Schwartz has climbed like absolutely nobody's business since!
As real good as Jauron was with Coughlin for the Jags, an upgrade was indeed the case in '99 with Dom Capers being their DC now. Yes, 'easy-schedule' rep that squad had, but they still were the best team as well as the best defense under Tom Coughlin while he was in Jax (can only play who's on your schedule)!
So where do you place Schwartz now among the greatest DCs? Is he better than Capers?
What DCs do you place just above Jim? And who do you place just beneath him?
He being the reason why my Steelers have to now play a play-in game against the Ravens (which I'm almost sure will be a LOSS) instead of they relaxing and getting ready for their first home playoff game since 2017, has got to add extra points to his current credit!
PS - should Jim be given another chance at HC-ing again as well? Or should he simply stick to DC-ing (climb even further up such ranks)?

In 2015, at the time I remember thinking the Bills absolutely should have elevated Schwartz to HC instead of hiring Rex Ryan.PS - should Jim be given another chance at HC-ing again as well? Or should he simply stick to DC-ing (climb even further up such ranks)?

I don't know. Maybe Buffalo wasn't for Rex at that very moment in time. Perhaps it wouldn't have been for Jim as their HC either. I am one who would like to see Rex have a third run as a HC somewhere!ChrisBabcock wrote: ↑Tue Dec 30, 2025 9:37 amIn 2015, at the time I remember thinking the Bills absolutely should have elevated Schwartz to HC instead of hiring Rex Ryan.PS - should Jim be given another chance at HC-ing again as well? As a Steeler-fan, I guess I can opine that Jim has passed Dom Capers but is not Dick LeBeau (and will not catch him either).
Perhaps one or quite a few of you can steer that opinion of mine. The door's wide-open.
