1. I found PFRA articles confirming that Thomas "Doggie" Trenchard (#30) and Langdon "Biffy" Lea (#19) played for athletic association teams (Pittsburgh, PA area) in the 1890s. Did anyone else from the 1894 Mayo set play “professional” football? (i.e. play for a team other than their college like an athletic association team) Here is a list of players from the set:
  • 1 Robert Acton (Harvard)
George Adee (Yale)
Richard Armstrong (Yale)
H.W. Barnett (Princeton)
A.M. Beale (Harvard)

George Gray UER (Harvard) (misspelled Grey)
John Greenway (Yale)
William Hickok (Yale)
Frank Hinkey (Yale)
Augustus Holly (Princeton)
Langdon Lea (Princeton)

Thomas Trenchard (Princeton)
William Ward (Princeton)
Bert Waters (Harvard)
Arthur Wheeler (Princeton)
Edgar Wrightington (Harvard)
Anonymous (John Dunlop,Harvard)
2. In the 35 Chicle set, Chester “Swede” Johnston’s father is noted as having played professional football in 1925. I can’t find any record of a player with the name Johnston in this time period though. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Packers wide receiver James Jones would probably sport that cape/sweater thing Johnston is wearing in that drawing.
