According to Getty Images, that's Dallas DB J.D. Smith in the face of Browns' QB Frank Ryan. It's hard to make out the number for the Cowboy, but I'm about 95% sure that isn't J.D. Smith, because Smith was black and the face of the DB doesn't appear to be a black player:

Any ideas?

Chuck Howley?
It could be. That looks like the bottom of a 4 on the right side front of his jersey.

After doing some Googling I'm gonna guess that's Chuck Howley as well. He did wear a double bar facemask at the same time as the Cowboys had the 3 stripes on their jerseys. Plus that looks more like a 5 on that jersey than a 2.

Speaking of mysterious photos, here's Landry getting off a bus at some sort of coaching retreat. I don't recognize the others.

Yes, and I'm pretty sure that's Allie Sherman in the left center of the photo, in full profile.

Looks like the the date of these photos was May 14, 1963. The NFL had three days worth of meetings (5/14/-16) in Dallas for head coaches, with some clinics, etc. included. The photos were part of the third annual Cowboys Fan Club barbecue, which also drew 1,080 fans.

As far additional ID's, I'm fairly certain that's Blanton Collier (Cleveland) immediately ahead of Landry in the first photo, while I know that the gent with the pipe in photo #2 (and on the far right in #4) is Nick Skorich, who was about to begin his last year in Philly.

The other head coaches not mentioned so far were:

George Halas
Don Shula
Wally Lemm-St. Louis
Buddy Parker-Pittsburgh
George Wilson-Detroit
Norm Van Brocklin-Minnesota
Harland Svare-Los Angeles
Bill McPeak-Washington
Red Hickey-Dallas
