Hypothetical Steeler-Bear 1963 NFL Title Game

Post by 7DnBrnc53 »

If Ed Brown and Co. are able to beat the Giants and punch their ticket to Chicago, who wins this game?

And, if Pittsburgh wins, do they find away to avoid their late-60's era of ineptitude?

The Bears would have rolled over Pittsburgh. Chicago of 1963 had quite possibly the best defense pre-Purple People Eaters, and was in my opinion better than anything ever devised by Brown or Lombardi. It would have been set a week later due to the Eastern Division playoff (don't know what the weather would have been like for the Title Game) but I guess the final score would have been about 24-3 Bears.

Given Buddy Parker's George Allen-like tendencies (which would have been ironic in a '63 matchup against Allen's Chicago defense), his own "Future is Now" approach might have extended their average but not great era long enough that they might not have considered Noll as HC or traded away picks that were later used on quality players.
