Overlooking Steve Sabol as the first and singular inductee under that blanket may not be the greatest exercise of ignorance
but it sure is close.
The entire group listed above combined has not contributed as much to the league as has Sabol and his Father before him.
To overlook him again - alone and without shadow - will simply be one more mewl and puke on the part of the electors.
Let us pray...

I'd go with Sabol and Brandt.

I hope they pick Sabol and Art McNally (a former referee and superviosr of officials should be in).

I think there's only one Contributor slot this year. I'd choose Steve Sabol.

Would gladly go with Young, Brandt, Beathard, or McNally. Not taken with any of the owner candidates, including Jones. Am lukewarm on Tagliabue.

Not sure if C. O. Brocado is the best scout choice or not since I don't know who the various options are. Makes sense to consider one, am guessing. Anybody got ideas on Brocado vs. other possibilities?

Bucko Kilroy is an interesting candidate, kind of a Dick LeBeau type hybrid. He had a Hall of the Very Good career as a player and a just-okay GM career. Not sure I'd vote for him, though.

Thoughts:

-Robert Kraft is probably as good an owner candidate as the others.

-I guess assistant coaches aren't eligible in this category.

-Joe Thomas is probably a better GM candidate than Kilroy.

Which would mean Kilroy has no chance, since Thomas' meltdown in SF, coupled with his abrasive approach in his other three stops will never get him a sniff when it comes to the HOF.

Thank God.
(Regarding Thomas. Got nothing against Bucko.)

I still think this is a useless category. Will Dick Stockton be among the nominees next year?

I wouldn't have voted for Jerome Bettis, but he's a slam dunk compared to this list of finalists, except for Steve Sabol, who does have a legitimate case. It's like the made this whole category just for him. So we get one real contributor and then a string of nobodies because now it's mandatory -- and meanwhile the Al Wisterts and Lavern Dilwegs and Johnny Robinsons and all the rest can keep waiting.

This is how I feel, as well.

For example, Brocato, deserves to be remembered in football circles - and is and has been honored by the Titans - so a nice long form article on him would be great. Maybe even a book (that likely only those of us here would ever read), but to be in the same room with Unitas, Hutson, Payton and so on? No. Lets be real.

It's bad enough when a player "lowers the bar", but to have an entire category?

For his contributions, Steve Sabol should have went in years ago through the normal process, my opinion.

Contributor category should be like the obscure Academy Award categories where they just list the names and there is no pomp and circumstance. They could elect/enshrine as many people as they want...they could have one scout, one executive, one assistant coach, one announcer every year. Have it be its own seperate thing. To me, that makes more sense than asking yourself "Is this the year where Bucko Kilroy gets more votes than Marvin Harrison?"
